  1. Do I need to install software on my computer to use Zoho Creator?

No. Zoho Creator is completely Web-based. All you need is an Internet connection and a web browser.

  1. Where is my information stored and how secured is it ?

All Zoho Creator applications and the information within them are remotely stored and hosted on Zoho web servers, which are monitored 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our customers know they can rely on Zoho to protect their valuable information because of the reputation and the industry-standard practices we employ. These include SSL encryption to protect information during transmission over the Internet, around-the-clock security of our data center, and back-up and recovery systems that ensure Zoho Creator is ready to use anytime, anywhere. For more information, please refer the Zoho FAQ section.

  1. Is my data publicly accessible or will it be crawled by popular search-engine spiders?

As far as data privacy is concerned, control is completely given to the application owner and Zoho does not control anything. By default all applications in Zoho Creator are 100% private to the owner. You have 3 levels of keeping the data:

    a. Private Application where all forms and views are private

This is the default behavior of any Zoho Creator Application. In this case, only the application owner can access and edit the data in the application and only application owner can modify the application’s Edit Mode (creating forms/views etc.)

    b. Private Application with one or more forms and views shared to specific users

Application owner can share to specific users using the ‘Share‘ tab of the application, in Edit Mode. This ensures data exposure within your closed circle. The forms/views can also be shared to ‘Public Visitor's’. i.e. to anyone who need not be logged in.

By default all views are not editable by shared users. It is in the control of application owner to allow users to Add/Edit/Delete records. The application owner has to specifically set permission in the View to let users (who are shared to the view) to Add/Edit/Delete records.

    c. Public Application where all forms and views are public

This works best for collecting data from the public and publishing the data in public. An application can be set to public, from the Application Settings option displayed on the top right corner, in Edit mode, or from the Share tab. By default all views are not editable by the public and the application owner has to allow access to Edit/Delete records.

To avoid search-engine spiders to crawl on your private data, please ensure that your application is "Private". Refer FAQ -> Sharing for more information on the different levels of sharing your application and configuring access permissions to Add/Edit/Delete records.

  1. Do I need to know coding to create an application?

  1. Is it possible to have JOINT ownership for a single account or is it possible to hand on ownership of a database from one person to another?

Creator does not support having multiple admin owners for a single account.

If you would like to hand over the database to another user you can do the following:

    • Add his ID to your ZOHO account and set his E-mail as the Primary ID. You can do this by logging into http ://accounts.zoho.com and selecting My E-mail IDs.
    • Delete your Amyl ID from the account so that you will not be able to access it anymore.
    • The new user can login and access the database from now on but with the same old Username and Password.
    • It is not possible to change the Username but the password can be modified.

  1. Can everyone who has access to a Zoho Creator application, edit the records? Is it possible to restrict people to avoid this?

By default, shared users do not have permission to add, edit or delete records in a view. The application owner has to grant access permissions by selecting the Set Permissions option from the View tab, in Edit mode. Refer FAQ - Views for more information.

  1. Do shared users need to hold a Zoho account to login to their shared applications?

Yes, shared users of a private application must hold a Zoho account to login to their shared applications.
